GIRLS AFFAIRS FOUNDATION HOLDS ANNUAL SUMMER LESSONS FOR IKOTA CHILDREN

….Calls for Improved Education Infrastructure

The Girls Affairs Foundation (GAF) has successfully concluded its annual summer lessons for children at the Ark Home of Emmanuel Foundation and across the Ikota community, held from August 11 to September 5.

The program combined academics, skills acquisition, moral development, and community service. Apart from their regular lessons, children were trained in practical skills such as making zobo drinks and chinchin. They also received teachings on human trafficking and strategies to avoid becoming victims.

This year’s spiritual session, themed “Food for Your Spirit,” aimed at building values, character in the children and reaching them for Christ.

The highlight of the program was the prize-giving day, where outstanding students were rewarded with textbooks in Mathematics and English, quantitative and verbal reasoning books, mathematical sets, and notebooks.

In line with instilling a culture of giving back, participants were also encouraged to serve their community by cleaning the church in Ikota.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Founder of GAF, Mrs. Precious Adaramola, raised concerns over the state of education in Ikota, lamenting poor infrastructure, poor network issues, bad roads, and lack of commercial transportation, which she said have continued to limit access to quality education for children in the area.

“We use this opportunity to plead with the government to use its good office to address these barriers so as to secure the future of our children in Ikota community,” she appealed.

She further expressed gratitude to Emmanuel Anglican Church and Teens Kingdom Foundation for donating notebooks.

Particularly, she appreciated her husband, Mr. Emmanuel Adaramola for giving her the opportunity to contribute her own part in building future leaders just as she applauded all volunteers on the project for their time.
